Richard Masters shares Farhad Moshiri stance on 777 Partners Everton takeover in parliament
Everton owner Farhad Moshiri wants to continue discussions with 777 Partners over their takeover at Goodison Park, according to Richard Masters.
The Miami-based investment firm have agreed on a deal to acquire Moshiri’s controlling stake in the Toffees, but various reports suggest the deal is on the brink of collapse amid new issues at 777 Partners.
While some have suggested Moshiri is ready to break ties and look for alternative buyers, Premier League chief executive Masters has told parliament the Toffees chief wants to continue talks with Josh Wander’s company.
As shared by Dan Roan on X (14 May) Masters said: “The Premier League’s role in this as regulator is to perform the test, it’s not to decide who the current owner wants to sell the club to.
“That is his decision. At the moment he wants to continue to have discussions with 777 about it. The Premier League has been very clear about the conditions that have to be met by 777 if it wishes to become the owner of Everton.
“At the moment because that takeover hasn’t been confirmed, I will leave it to the committee to make its own conclusions over where we are with that.”
Will 777 Partners complete their takeover of Everton at Goodison Park?
While most Everton fans have been quick to slam the Premier League for allowing this deal to be negotiated, Masters is correct in his statement that the blame ultimately lies with Moshiri.
The Toffees’ current owner is the man who has deemed 777 Partners as the right fit to succeed him at Goodison Park and while the Premier League should step in, they are powerless to tell Moshiri what to do with his asset.
It had appeared as though Moshiri had finally seen some sense and decided to break his ties with the Miami-based company, but Masters’ latest admission suggests he remains keen on striking a deal with 777 Partners.
Hopefully, an alternative buyer will swoop in and stop this deal from advancing any further. It would be best for all parties if somebody other than 777 Partners ended up taking over the Toffees.
