Everton partial investment update emerges amid 777 Partners takeover uncertainty
Alan Myers believes partial investment in Everton is “possible” amid continued uncertainty regarding 777 Partners’ attempted takeover.
The Miami-based firm’s bid to acquire Everton has dragged on since September 2023 and Toffees fans are keen to secure an alternative owner.
An extension of the agreement between the club and 777 must reportedly be agreed by 31 May, and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is seemingly exploring other avenues.
Myers posted on X (May 16): “The state of play: Everton are continuing to review the ongoing proposed sale of the club, the contractual terms to extend 777 Partners agreement expires on 31st May, majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is continuing to explore a number of different alternatives.”
When asked what the alternatives were and whether they included the possibility of partial investment, Myers replied: “I think all options are possible.”
Everton hopefully edging closer to being rid of 777 Partners
The news that Moshiri is actively looking for investors other than 777 will come as a relief to Everton supporters.
The drawn-out nature of the Miami-based firm’s attempted takeover and the myriad allegations made against the company have not inspired confidence that their potential reign at the club would be one of financial stability, astute management and on-field success.
Rather, their continued inability – or unwillingness – to pass the Premier League’s owners and directors test since agreeing to purchase the club from Moshiri nine months ago has provided a daunting insight into how the club could be run under their ownership.
If Moshiri can source an alternative investor who has the financial muscle and nous to stabilise and patch up Everton’s creaking ship, it will be seen as no minor miracle by many on Merseyside. If not, fans may need to buckle up for what is sure to be as bumpy a ride as they have ever experienced as supporters of the club.
