Richard Masters to attend Arsenal v Everton as awkward scenario avoided
Richard Masters is set to attend Arsenal’s home clash with Everton at Emirates Stadium on the final day of the Premier League season, according to The Athletic.
In watching the Gunners face the Toffees in London, Masters avoids the potentially awkward scenario of handing Manchester City the trophy despite the charges made against them by the league, which he has openly spoken about.
City have been charged with 115 breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules, which have yet to be resolved.
No love for Richard Masters among Everton fans
Masters has become an unpopular figure in the blue half of Merseyside this season.
Toffees supporters have been understandably disgruntled that their club has been hit with not one, but two separate points deductions for breaches of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) this term totalling eight points – after a successful appeal reduced the first sanction from 10 points to six – while City remain unpunished despite their numerous charges.
Nottingham Forest have also been hit with a points deduction this season, with that another source of contention for Everton fans. Forest were docked four points – two fewer than the Toffees’ first sanction, despite going over the accepted limit by a greater amount.
Thankfully for Everton, Sean Dyche’s men secured safety from relegation – sitting 14 points clear of the drop zone despite the lost points – and will now finish either 15th or 16th, depending on the results of the final round of fixtures.

The longer City’s charges are not dealt with while clubs like Everton and Forest are punished, the more the ill feeling towards Masters and the Premier League will grow among the fanbases of the afflicted clubs.
