Paul Merson with head in hands over Everton and Sean Dyche shout live on Sky Sports
Paul Merson was left with his head in his hands as Kris Boyd selected Everton boss Sean Dyche as his Premier League Manager of the Season on Sunday 19 May.
Despite the constant takeover turmoil off the pitch and eight points being deducted for profit and sustainability breaches, the Toffees survived comfortably in the end.
Merson instead picked Mikel Arteta and couldn’t believe that Boyd had even considered Dyche given where Everton finished in the table, disregarding the madness at Goodison Park.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News, as shared on X, Simon Thomas shared the reaction to Boyd’s pick: “What about Boydy?
“He’s gone for Sean Dyche at Everton, Sue Smith nodding away in agreement with this one. Merse has got his head in his hands.”
Sean Dyche is Premier League Manager of the Season
It was no surprise to anyone at Goodison Park that Dyche was snubbed by the Premier League as they announced their nominees this week.
Jurgen Klopp and Andoni Iraola haven’t exactly done anything of note during this season, and the fact that Dyche was snubbed after everything that has happened this season, is a joke.
The Premier League have made it very clear they have a dislike for the Toffees though, with the club left out of an end-of-season video this week, the only club left out.
Merson selected an Arsenal representative in every category, making his allegiances very clear before acting strangely when Boyd smartly selected Dyche, not just selecting the obvious.
Unai Emery is another who has a great chance of getting the award, and would deserve it too given he has taken Aston Villa back to the Premier League.
The weird reaction to Dyche and Everton though just shows that it really is them against the world, and it needs to be stopped before it gets even more embarrassing.
