Seamus Coleman shares brand new Everton contract update with offer on table

Everton captain Seamus Coleman has spoken about his potential future at the club with his current contract set to expire at the end of June.

The 35-year-old Toffees skipper believes he can still be “competitive” at Premier League level despite making just 12 appearances this season, and has been offered a new deal by the club.

Coleman has been at Goodison Park for the past 15 seasons and says he feels a responsibility to help Everton however he can, for as long as he can.

In quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo, Coleman said: “I’ve been offered something but it’s not something that I’ve sat down and considered deeply just yet.

“It’s time to sit down and think but I make no secret about it, I absolutely love the football club. I feel like I have a duty to help the football club while I still feel I can, so we’ll see where the next couple of weeks take us.

“When wingers are skipping past me, I’ll understand. I play against some top wingers in training and I still feel competitive.”

Is Seamus Coleman’s time up at Everton?

Everton fans have become accustomed to seeing Coleman bombing up and down the right flank for the last decade and a half at Goodison Park, but his lack of minutes this season suggests that the Irishman’s time on Merseyside could be coming to an end.

Coleman has only once – in his debut season back in 2009/10 – made fewer league appearances than his 12 this season, and in the usual circumstances, you’d expect this to be a sign of an impending departure.

However, circumstances at Everton are anything but usual these days, and with next to no available funds to buy a replacement for the 35-year-old unless big money comes in for other players, offering Coleman a new deal makes sense.

The club simply don’t have the finances to fund a much-needed rebuild of the Toffees squad this summer, meaning other veteran players such as Idrissa Gueye and Ashley Young are also in line to sign new contracts with the club.

Sean Dyche won’t be the first to call on Coleman in times of need, and given his love of the club he’s called home for 15 years, you’d expect the Irishman to still be donning the blue jersey next season.
