Everton consider Florentino Luis bid with new transfer on cards
Everton are considering another bid for Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Ben Jacobs.
The journalist reported via his personal X account [22 May] that, having had a £25.5million offer rejected during the January transfer window, the Toffees remain interested in the Portuguese midfielder.
It is understood that the 24-year-old has a £102million release clause in his current contract, having earned a regular role in Benfica’s team and lifting two Primeira Liga titles.
Could Everton sign Benfica star Florentino Luis?
With the amount of interest mounting in the young Portuguese star, it comes as no surprise to see Everton join the long list of European giants as potential suitors.
Luis is an extremely talented defensive midfielder, capable of playing further up into centre-midfield, and has created a solid base for Roger Schmidt to build a title-winning team around.
Alongside Joao Neves and Orkun Kokcu, all of whom are raising interest from European teams, the trio of midfielders are extremely exciting prospects who will likely end up moving to a bigger league soon.
Considering the Toffees’ current predicament in midfield, with Amadou Onana being linked with a move away, and Idrissa Gana Gueye’s injury issues, Luis could be the perfect fit for Sean Dyche’s set-up.
However, the ongoing uncertainties surrounding the club’s takeover and worries about Profit and Sustainability Rules will make it much harder for Everton to secure signings this summer.
Funds are certainly limited at Goodison Park currently, which would suggest that the Evertonians would be targeting a much lower fee than the £102million release clause.
If the Toffees can pull off this signing and claim the 24-year-old signature this summer, it would be an incredible coup, one that would certainly help the club to push up the Premier League table next season.
