Everton want to sign Corinthians forward Wesley Gassova as club stance emerges

Everton are among the clubs interested in signing Corinthians sensation Wesley Gassova this summer, according to HITC.

Writing on their website (22 May), the news outlet report that the 19-year-old is the target of several Premier League clubs including West Ham, Brighton, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian club are open to selling the forward in a deal worth around £25m, with club president Augusto Melo expected in London next week for talks over the player’s future.

Everton must be smart with transfer business

It’s going to be a very difficult summer at Goodison Park this year, with the club knowing they must sell to balance the books but knowing they must also find a way to strengthen the squad.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana look likely to leave the club, while Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma have returned to their parent clubs after their loan deals ended.

That means attackers will certainly be needed, and Wesley has been described as “one of the most exciting players in Brazil”.

But the issue that would rear it’s head is that he is a huge flair player, and the way Sean Dyche likes to play and set his teams up it’s hard to see how he would fit into the squad.

At £25m it would be a really expensive deal for the Toffees too considering their situation, so it seems like this one is probably a non-starter in all honesty.
