777 Partners begin Standard Liege sale amid Everton takeover, The Esk instantly reacts
777 Partners are selling Standard Liege to “survive” rather than fund their takeover of Everton at Goodison Park, according to The Esk.
Reports in Belgium emerged on Wednesday (22 May) that the Miami-based investment firm had engaged investment bank Moelis to aid them in the sale of their Belgian club Standard Liege [Lavenier, 22 May].
This led to suggestions that 777 were attempting to raise funds to push their takeover on Merseyside over the line, however, Toffees’ financial expert The Esk has said that is unlikely to be the case.
Writing on X on Thursday (23 May) he said: “They (or more likely A-Cap) are desperately divesting to survive.”
Will 777 Partners complete their takeover of Everton at Goodison Park?
777 Partners’ takeover of Everton has been surrounded by controversy ever since it was originally mooted and that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, with more and more updates emerging day after day.
Farhad Moshiri has given the American firm more time to meet the Premier League’s demands, with the deadline currently set at the end of May, but it doesn’t seem likely that extension will change much at Goodison Park.
Simon Jordan has admitted that he still believes that 777 will become owners of Everton in some way, shape or form, but he seems to be in the minority with most insisting that this deal is completely dead in the water.
While the sale of Standard Liege could represent an opportunity to raise some much-needed funds, it doesn’t seem like that is the Miami-based firm are planning to use the money in that way as they aim to avoid administration themselves.
Hopefully, supporters will be given more clarity sooner rather than later as they have been left in the dark by Moshiri recently.
