Everton sell-on clause emerges as Manchester United want to sign £80m Jarrad Branthwaite
Everton will lose 15% of any fee they receive for Jarrad Branthwaite this summer due to a sell-on clause included in the deal done with Carlisle, according to iNews.
Writing on their website (22 May), the news outlet report that the newly-relegated League Two club inserted the clause in the £1m deal that took the young defender to Goodison Park back in 2020.
Branthwaite is expected to leave this summer with Manchester United heavily linked, and the Toffees have placed an £80m price tag on the player’s head as a result of the clause, with a major sale expected before June 30th.
Everton prepare for sale and loss with Jarrad Branthwaite asking price
Everyone involved with Everton knows sales will be happening this summer, and Branthwaite is the prime candidate to head out of the door despite everyone wishing to keep him.
As a left-sided central defender there is a real clamouring for his profile, and at just 21-years-old it’s scary to think how much better he could become in the coming years.
So teams will be open to paying a big sum to bring him to their club, but the Toffees know that they need to cover their own back if they’re going to be losing a star player this summer.

Branthwaite moving on will be pure profit for the FFP books, but with a 15% clause it means the full amount they receive won’t actually go to them and that will obviously affect their bottom line.
Considering he signed a new deal during the season, there is great leverage in negotiations and by setting the asking price high it ensures the club get proper value for their biggest asset if he is to move on.
