Everton make approach to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur in transfer update

Everton have made an approach to sign midfielder Arthur from Juventus, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition [page 13, 25 May] that Fiorentina are unable to afford the Brazilian on a permanent deal despite an impressive loan spell at the club.

Napoli have also been linked, while Everton are thought to have enquired about his availability.

What would Arthur bring to Everton?

Arthur’s reputation in England suffered dramatically from a failed injury-hit stint at Merseyside rivals Liverpool in which he managed just one appearance.

That connection may not endear him to Toffees fans from the blue half of the city, but the Brazilian has been a player transformed in Italy this term.

The 27-year-old former Barcelona midfielder has racked up 2,806 minutes of playing time in 47 appearances across all competitions for Fiorentina this term, scoring two goals and registering three assists in 33 Serie A games.

His pass completion rate of 92.1 per cent – equating to 1,350 successful passes – demonstrates his ability to help control games with the ball and keep things ticking over in midfield.

If Arthur does return to Merseyside, he may enjoy far more success in blue than he ever did in red.
