Everton takeover twist emerges as John Textor considers Championship club purchase

Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor has looked at buying a club in the Premier League and the Championship having confirmed his interest in Everton, according to Ed Aarons.

The Guardian football journalist reported via X on Friday (24 May) that the Eagles shareholder is interested in buying a different club once he has sold his shares in the Selhurst Park club.

Textor is thought to be reluctant to leave Palace but understands that he won’t get the collaboration he craves while working with the club and the rest of his Eagle Football group.

Writing on X, Aarons said: “Understand that John Textor has also looked at buying another club in the Premier League and one in the Championship once he has sold his Crystal Palace shares.

“The American has already confirmed he is interested in adding Everton to his Eagle Football group.”

The Athletic (24 May) had reported that the American has sought help from investment firm Raine to sell his 45 per cent stake in the Eagles as he has begun preliminary talks to buy the Toffees.

Will 777 Partners complete their takeover of Everton at Goodison Park?

While discussions remain ongoing with 777 Partners as they try and salvage their takeover before the 31 May deadline, it is clear there are alternative buyers waiting in the wings who are interested in taking over Everton.

Textor has set out his stool confidently now and while it appears as though he could be exploring other potential clubs, he clearly has a desire to take over the Toffees which can only be good news for supporters.

777’s bid seems destined to break down as more and more issues crop up across their businesses all around the world and while that could be bad news in the short term, it may force Farhad Moshiri to genuinely consider alternatives.

Hopefully, Textor’s interest will transform into something concrete if and when the Miami-based investment firm’s bid collapses. He seems to be a much more solid option than what is currently on offer at Goodison.
