Everton takeover update: Journalist stunned as Crystal Palace chief wants to buy Toffees
Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor is unlikely to have made an “unsolicited” takeover approach to Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, according to Paul Brown.
Textor has revealed that he is looking to sell Eagle Football’s stake in Palace, which is understood to be 45 per cent, partly to pursue a potential takeover at Goodison Park or another Premier League side in the future.
Although it is a surprise to see Textor make his interest in the Toffees public at this stage, Josimar journalist Brown doesn’t believe the Palace man will have already made his stance clear to Moshiri.
Writing on X on Friday (24 May) he said: “It’s an interesting move to go public with your interest in one club when you haven’t sold your stake in another yet.
“Textor is almost certainly not one of the “unsolicited approaches” mentioned by Moshiri. But again shows how much interest there is out there.”
Will 777 Partners or John Textor takeover Everton at Goodison Park?
Moshiri has given prospective new Everton owners 777 Partners until the end of May to complete their takeover on Merseyside having extended the deadline recently, but it seems unlikely they will be able to pull it off.
Once that May deadline has passed, Moshiri will be able to listen to other approaches from alternative buyers, but at this moment in time, the Toffees chief insists that he is only interested in dealing with the Miami-based firm.
Whether or not Textor will be one of those parties keen to move to acquire his controlling stake at Goodison Park remains to be seen, but as Brown suggests, there is plenty of alternative interest available to the Toffees.
Hopefully, these parties will make themselves known if and when 777’s deal finally collapses as the Blues will need somebody to step in sooner rather than later to ensure they don’t suffer financially or even potentially enter administration.
