John Textor speaks out on Farhad Moshiri talks to buy Everton amid 777 Partners agreement

John Textor has confirmed that he has held conversations about buying Everton once he sells his stake in Crystal Palace.

Speaking to The Athletic (24 May), the American has revealed his interest in taking over the Toffees with his Eagle Football Group after selling his 45% stake in the south London club he currently part owns as they are not the right fit for what he wants to invest in.

And talks are underway about a deal getting done, but admits talks can’t go too far as 777 Partners have a contract with Farhad Moshiri for a period of exclusivity until 31 May.

“Yes [I’ve had conversations around buying Everton],” Textor told The Athletic. “With the existing constituents — different groups, different lenders, different equity holders.

“I’ve asked them ‘is there a way to solve all this confusion and address everyone’s problems?’ I’m very open-minded to it but I don’t want to come into a situation where I’m not really welcome.

“I’m watching it but 777 still has a contract. There are people that are close to the club who care a lot about it who are also investing.”

Will John Textor be the next owner of Everton?

The Everton ownership situation right now isn’t very clear, and nobody seems to know what to expect.

Moshiri clearly wants out, and rightly so, but 777 Partners clearly aren’t capable of fulfilling the deal that they have agreed to takeover the club and the 31 May deadline is a bit of a charade.

But for Textor to be so open and brazen about his interest in buying the club is strange, considering he literally can’t do anything at all until he has sold his stake in Crystal Palace.

That means there is a big hurdle to overcome at this stage and it seems unlikely that Textor would be able to get a deal done in time to help Everton with their issues.

The club have confirmed there are alternative scenarios lined up at this point already for if the 777 deal collapses, so it’s one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.
