Jordan Pickford exit claim emerges as Everton ace is slammed after what he said on Tuesday

Bryan King has accused Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford of “covering his own back” amid transfer news this week.

The ex-Everton scout doesn’t believe the interest in the 30-year-old is as strong as it might appear.

According to a report in the Mirror (22 May), Chelsea are considering signing Pickford, who has indicated that he is keen to remain at Goodison Park.

The shot-stopper wrote via a post on his Instagram account (21 May), “Proud of this team and how we overcame the challenges thrown at us during the season.

“Can’t wait to kick on and build next season. Thanks for your support throughout the season.”

But King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has questioned the England international’s motives behind this post.

“I have never been a great fan of Pickford, even if he is England’s number one,” King said.

“If the interest in him was so strong, I think a deal would have been agreed.

“I think he is just covering his own back and trying to appear as a loyal player to a great football club.

“It is great to read that clubs want him, but I question how much of it is true. If it was, I think Everton would have sold him.”

Would Jordan Pickford quit life with Everton to join Chelsea?

It is strange to imagine that Pickford would turn down a move to Chelsea.

For all of the London club’s struggles, they are competing much higher up the league than the Toffees.

However, if the Everton number one is truly keen to remain at Goodison Park, then he deserves plenty of praise.

Everton
Jordan Pickford has been linked with a move away from Everton.

Loyalty in modern football is rare, and it will be interesting to see if Pickford is still an Everton player come August.

In other Everton news, the Premier League have been accused of an agenda against the Toffees as two more points deductions are mooted.
