The Esk drops verdict on John Textor takeover of Everton as fresh twist emerges

Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor will not become the new owner or part-owner of Everton, according to The Esk.

Writing on his personal X account (24 May), the finance expert and journalist was responding to reports that the American is interested in selling his shares in the Eagles and buying the Toffees from Farhad Moshiri.

But with a deal not possible unless his shares in Palace are gone first, The Esk believes there is “absolutely no prospect” of a deal being done between Textor and Moshiri for Everton.

“Just for the avoidance of doubt, there is absolutely no prospect of him [Textor] becoming Everton owner/part owner,” he wrote.

Everton need clarity in this takeover situation

Farhad Moshiri doesn’t want to be the owner of Everton anymore, and Blues fans don’t want him in charge any more either.

But 777 Partners simply aren’t capable of getting a deal over the line, and considering all their issues elsewhere it’s probably a good thing that nothing has gone through yet.

However, Textor making a public declaration that he wants to buy Everton seemed like a strange development considering he still owns Palace and is nowhere near selling it.

It only weakens his negotiating position with Moshiri if he really did want to buy the Toffees, and so it seems more like a publicity stunt than anything else.

There is no clear motivation behind it, but with the club admitting they have alternative suitors lined up should the deal with 777 Partners fall through, this situation is clearly nowhere near over.
