£12m bid to be submitted for Everton-linked Sammie Szmodics at Blackburn Rovers

Everton may be thwarted in their attempts to lure Blackburn Rovers talisman Sammie Szmodics to Goodison Park by a lucrative bid from Galatasaray, according to TEAMtalk.

The report [26 May] details that the Turkish giants are preparing a £12m amount to test Blackburn’s resolve, with the forward having two years left to run on his contract at Ewood Park.

Szmodics set the Championship alight despite Blackburn’s lowly league position, almost single-handedly saving Rovers from the drop with 27 league goals to claim the division’s Golden Boot.

His performances have earned him Republic of Ireland international recognition, and Everton’s long-standing interest in the 28-year-old could be hijacked by Galatasaray’s potential opening bid.

Can Everton convince Szmodics to become a Toffee?

Everton will always hold a degree of pulling power due to the sheer size of the club and passion of the fans – not to mention their exciting new planned venture into the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium next year.

Szmodics will have his pick from a host of clubs in what will likely be a long summer for Blackburn to try and fend off interest from all angles.

The TEAMtalk report also noted interest from Brentford and returning Premier League outfit Leicester City, and with Blackburn struggling financially in their rocky reign of Venky’s, Galatasaray may see the Championship club as prey for their star man.

As much as Blackburn have to receive a fair injection of cash for Szmodics should they decide to sell, the player himself knows his next contract is the most vital of his career, and has huge pressure on his shoulders to decide the best move for himself and his young family.

The fact he is as yet unproven in the Premier League means Blackburn may have to settle for a fee of under £20m by later on in the summer, but replacing Szmodics would be the toughest task in a long time in Lancashire.
