Sky Sports share ‘exciting’ late-night Everton takeover news amid John Textor development
Sky Sports have shared an update on the takeover situation at Everton, with Crystal Palace part-owner John Textor now considered the frontrunner.
Textor revealed in an interview with The Athletic last week that he was interested in buying out Farhad Moshiri’s stake at Goodison Park.
The American businessman admitted that may be unlikely due to 777 Partners being locked in an exclusivity agreement.
However, in a late-night update live on Sky Sports News [27 May, 9:01pm], the reporter said: “We start with the breaking and exciting news for Everton fans that, after so much woe, there could be better news on the horizon.
“John Textor, a part-owner of Crystal Palace, is now believed to be a frontrunner to buy Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake in the club.”
Everton takeover takes favourable twist
After almost a year of twist and turns – usually negative ones – this is finally some fantastic news for Everton supporters.
Textor has experience of running a Premier League club in Palace and he clearly has the funds to be able to do likewise at Everton.
The American has been very open and honest, admitting at the weekend that if a takeover at Goodison is to happen, it has to be this summer.
Given this update via Sky Sports, it seems as though Farhad Moshiri may now be willing to play ball and negotiate with Textor.
777 Partners were never in a position to buy Everton and it is a farce it has taken so long to come to that conclusion.
If Textor can sell his full 45-per-cent stake in Palace, it then paves the way for this takeover at Everton to go through at long, long last.
There are still hurdles to overcome, of course, but at least Toffees fans can rest a little easier now knowing that Textor, and not 777, is the frontrunner to oust Moshiri.
In other Everton news, the club are now “confident” of landing an attacking player permanently this summer.
