Simon Jordan shares Everton and Crystal Palace verdict after John Textor takeover news

Everton have much more “scale” as a footballing investment than Crystal Palace for potential new owner John Textor, according to Simon Jordan.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, the former Palace owner gave his assessment on the task at hand for whoever does complete a buyout at Goodison Park, with Textor the latest in a host of names to express interest.

Despite calling Textor a “very impressive individual”, Jordan acknowledged that completing a takeover would be complicated by both his 45 per cent stake in Palace and the Toffees’ current financial state.

On his TalkSPORT show with Jim White, Jordan said: “Everton is a bigger football club than Crystal Palace.

“There is more scale to Everton. They’re building a new stadium, got more heritage, history and legacy than Palace.

“They’ve won things in the top league – not for a long time, but to me, if you’re an impartial football investor, the better is Everton.”

Will John Textor become Everton’s new owner?

Takeover talks at Goodison Park have rumbled along at a snail’s pace for much of the last year, and the fallout from several seasons of financial mismanagement finally spilt over onto the pitch in 2023/24.

Sean Dyche’s Toffees were hit with two separate points deductions for financial fair play breaches, massively threatening to hinder their ultimately successful bid to avoid Premier League relegation.

John Textor would need to sell his shares in Crystal Palace to buy Everton

Naturally, no one in blue wants to experience another season of similar circumstances, and that’s reflected by the fairly sudden emergence of Textor as a candidate to purchase Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake.

Textor, as a 45 per cent owner of Crystal Palace, would be unable to own such large portions of two Premier League clubs, but having outwardly expressed his desire to become Everton’s new owner, both the Toffees and Palace will be braced for a summer of potentially huge change at boardroom level.

While Moshiri’s long-time preferred buyers 777 Partners were never able to satisfy the Premier League’s owners and directors tests, Textor has already passed the same requirements to purchase his stake in Palace, and if he can sell that aforementioned stake, he’ll be in pole position to become Everton’s new majority shareholder.
