Everton may eye Burnley ace Maxime Esteve as Fabrizio Romano shares transfer update

Everton could be one of the clubs keen on signing Burnley defender Maxime Esteve this summer after approaching him in January.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on Twitter on 29 May at 1:52 pm that the French defender is on the shortlist of two Premier League clubs.

One of them may very well be the Toffees, as according to the Daily Mail on 27 January, they made an approach to sign him back when he was in Montpellier but he eventually ended up joining Burnley.

Romano wrote: “Maxime Estève, attracting interest for the summer transfer window after Burnley relegation.

“France U23 centre back, in shortlist of two Premier League clubs after playing all 16 consecutive games since he joined the club in February.”

Maxime Esteve will be a shrewd signing for Everton

Relegation to the Championship could make it easier for the Toffees to sign Esteve from Burnley as it often leads to financial constraints for clubs, which could force the Clarets to sell players to balance their books.

This situation might make Burnley more willing to negotiate a transfer fee for the 22-year-old that Everton could afford, especially if they are keen on signing him.

Burnley’s relegation could provide the Frenchman with a chance to continue playing in the Premier League if he were to move to Goodison Park, which could be a more attractive proposition for the player.

The potential departure of Jarrad Branthwaite, who is being targeted by several Premier League clubs, could also increase the club’s need for a new centre-back.

Moreover, the underperformance of Mason Holgate and Michael Keane, as well as their potential departures, could further necessitate the signing of a new centre-back.

The Toffees’ need for a reliable and consistent performer in the heart of their defence could be a key factor in their pursuit of Esteve.
