Everton transfer budget update emerges at Goodison Park already
Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell are “in the dark” about the club’s transfer budget and which players will be sold to generate funds, according to the Daily Mirror.
The newspaper has reported in its print edition [page 55, 29 May] that the club’s financial issues are continuing to pile up, with the threat of administration considered “serious”.
The knock-on effect that will have on the club’s summer transfer window activity remains yet to be felt, though it is likely to have a significant impact.
How much will Everton have to spend this summer?
How much Everton have available to bolster the squad with is likely to be contingent on as-yet unresolved financial issues off the field.
Between the threat of administration, 777 Partners’ continued failure to pass the Premier League’s owners and directors test and the significant costs incurred by the construction of the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, Everton’s financial situation looks dire indeed.
Saleable assets such as Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana look increasingly likely to be offloaded to generate funds, though how much of the fee they command will be used to recruit suitable replacements remains to be seen.

As urgent as Everton’s financial needs are, being too cavalier with selling off the playing squad’s leading lights could lead to a weakening of the team to the extent that they are unable to fend off relegation – which would result in a significant worsening of the club’s financial position.
That dilemma is likely the root cause of the lack of communication over a transfer budget or specific player’s futures. There are no straightforward solutions for a club in Everton’s position.
