Everton transfer news as Dominic Calvert-Lewin contract update emerges amid Newcastle United links
Everton have opened contract talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin to try and extend his stay at Goodison Park, according to TEAMTalk.
The outlet reported on Wednesday (29 May) that the Toffees are keen to fight off interest in their centre forward ahead of the transfer window and are therefore willing to increase his current £86,000,000-a-week wages.
Talks will continue to be held between the two parties over the coming days as they look to reach an agreement before the window opens this summer.
This update comes only a matter of days after reports emerged suggesting Newcastle United were keen on securing a move for the England international, having already held transfer discussions about him internally [The Telegraph, 23 May].
Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave Everton for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window?
Everton are going to have to sell players this summer as they look to balance the books at Goodison Park, but both Sean Dyche and supporters will be reluctant to lose a player of Calvert-Lewin’s importance.
With a year left on his current deal, the next few months represent the Toffees’ final chance to secure a reasonable transfer fee for the striker’s services, therefore, it would make financial sense to sell him if a new deal cannot be agreed.
If the Blues did let the 27-year-old leave Merseyside however, they would simply have to replace him as neither Beto nor Youseff Chermiti have shown that they are capable of scoring the goals needed to fire the Toffees to safety in the Premier League.

Therefore, it would be a much cheaper and easier solution for all parties if a new contract could be agreed sooner rather than later. That way, no replacements will be needed and more money can be saved at Goodison.
Hopefully, these talks between the two parties will be successful and supporters will receive an update sooner rather than later on Calvert-Lewin’s long-term future.
