Amadou Onana issue ups pressure on Jarrad Branthwaite exit as Everton must sell – Sky Sports

Jarrad Branthwaite could be more likely to attract bids at Everton before 30 June as no moves have yet emerged for Amadou Onana, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported via their website on 29 May that the Toffees must make a major sale before that date to stay in line with PSR rules.

And with Manchester United after the central defender, valued as highly as £70million at Goodison Park, the lack of current options to sell midfielder Onana may increase the likelihood of offers coming in before the end of next month of Branthwaite.

The 21-year-old is reportedly high on the list at Old Trafford, where they are prioritising central defence after winning the FA Cup but a poor Premier League season.

In addition, the star defender is also being tracked by Tottenham and Manchester City, but while there has been reported interest in Onana from various sources this season there is apparently no avenue for him to move yet.

Manchester United chasing key Everton star

Given the choice Sean Dyche and most Evertonians would likely choose to let Belgian international Onana leave than Branthwaite.

All things being equal they are both players who would be important for the long haul but given the ongoing financial pressures at Goodison Park the unfortunate reality is high-profile sales continue to be required.

There is a suspicion that Onana is not best suited to the way the manager sets up Everton while Branthwaite has thrived under Dyche in his first season as a regular starter in the English top flight.

With a month left before the end of the current accounting period the Toffees will clearly hope that a concrete market develops for the former, with his exit at some point this summer now expected.

But with the risks of not selling someone before the end of June very real after a campaign when the club was hit by a pair of points deductions it would seem to be the worst of all worlds to have to sacrifice Branthwaite in the next few weeks for accounting purposes and then end up losing Onana as well.

In other Everton news, Dyche believes one Toffees factor can convince a big-name player to join the club.
