Dominic Calvert-Lewin stance on new Everton contract mooted after Goodison Park update
Ian Croll has admitted he will be “surprised” if Dominic Calvert-Lewin signs a new contract with Everton to extend his stay at Goodison Park.
The England international’s current contract on Merseyside is set to expire at the end of next season, but reports from the Liverpool Echo (30 May) suggest that the Toffees have offered him an extension ahead of the transfer window.
Calvert-Lewin is understood to be a target for Newcastle United this summer and while Liverpool Echo journalist and host of the Royal Blue Podcast Croll wants the Englishman to pen a new deal, he doesn’t think the striker will extend his stay.
Writing on X on Thursday (30 May) he said: “I’ll genuinely be surprised if he signs a new contract.
“Massive boost if he does though. Everton are a completely different proposition with him in the side.”
Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin sign a new contract at Everton and Goodison Park?
As Croll suggests, the Toffees are always a much better side when Calvert-Lewin is fit and available so it only makes sense that the Blues should do everything they can in their power to try and keep him at Goodison.
But the Blues’ current financial situation has been well documented and it is known that they will have to sell players this summer to try and balance the books and dodge a potential third breach of profit and sustainability rules.
While both Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite could potentially fetch bigger transfer fees, Calvert-Lewin’s current contract situation means that Everton will have to sell him this summer to be able to pocket a reasonable fee.
Ultimately, only the England international will know whether or not he really wants to sign on the dotted line at Goodison. He will be guaranteed regular first-team football, but he may feel he can challenge himself at a higher level.
