Everton ace Amadou Onana drops hint on Goodison Park future which fans won’t like
Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana has said he can “present himself” to the European elite at EURO 2024, as he’s linked with a summer move away from Everton.
Speaking to Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws in a lengthy interview, Onana discussed the prospect of attracting the attention of top European clubs with his performances in this summer’s Championship.
The Belgian defensive midfielder is one of several high-value players who looks likely to be sold by the Toffees in the upcoming transfer window, and his comments suggest that he’s keen on putting himself in the shop window.
When asked if the Euros were a stage for Onana to show himself to bigger clubs, he said: “At previous tournaments, you have seen that the players who did well moved up to the top clubs.
“That’s something I strive for.
“I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”
Onana looks certain to leave Goodison Park
Everton need to get big-money players off the books this summer, having just gone through a perilous season marred by points deductions for financial fair play breaches.
Alongside players like goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite and soon-to-be out-of-contract striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Onana represents one of the most sellable assets amongst the playing squad at Goodison Park.

A move of £50million and above has been mooted for the Belgian, although the club are yet to field any offers for Onana, and his comments on international duty suggest he’s hoping to command a fee of that magnitude after an impressive tournament in Germany this summer.
Replacements for Onana – at varying fees – have reportedly already been linked and approached by Everton as a parting of ways looks almost inevitable, and if the Belgian’s comments about moving to a bigger club are genuine, the onus is now on Onana to earn himself a transfer.
Everton fans will not be happy with these comments, and a parting of ways may come at the perfect time.
