Everton takeover extension dismissed as 777 Partners lawyers ask for more time

777 Partners are not set to get another extension to their attempted takeover of Everton, according to The Esk.

The Toffees analyst clarified via Twitter on 29 May that attempts by the firm’s lawyers to get more time in a US court case will not have a similar effect on their agreement with Farhad Moshiri.

The Esk had reported the previous day that 777’s legal representation had asked for an extension to 3 June to file responses in the legal dispute with Leadenhall.

But asked whether this could again extend the takeover deadline, already unexpectedly pushed back once more to 31 May earlier this month [Telegraph, 14 May], he insisted it would not.

John Textor now wants to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri

At long, long last it would appear 777’s attempts to buy the Toffees are now in their final throws as the latest deadline approaches.

The firm’s failure to repay MSP Sports Capital’s loans by the April deadline was supposed to end the bid but Moshiri negotiated an extension on their behalf, and then afforded them another as difficulties engulfed their business in May and the deal, first announced back in September, was believed to have expired.

With Josh Wander and Steven Pasko out of their positions on the football board within the firm the entire picture has now changed, and part-Crystal Palace owner John Textor has now emerged as a surprise favourite to take over instead.

The relationship between Everton and 777 will necessarily continue in some form into the future as they are now significant creditors, having provided more than £200million in funding to the club through the season.

But, while it is difficult to predict what decisions Moshiri will make in the drawn-out ownership situation it seems next to impossible for 777 to continue as a genuine concern in the takeover conversation.
