Everton transfer news as winner named in race with Manchester United for James Overy

Manchester United have beaten Everton and West Ham to the services of James Overy, according to newspaper journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing in his Patreon on 31 May, Nixon claimed that the 16-year-old right-back picked the Old Trafford outfit.

The Manchester club will compensate Perth Glory under the transfer rules laid out by FIFA.

Nixon wrote: “Manchester United have won the race for Australian teenage star James Overy – and beaten Everton and West Ham to the signing.

“Right back Overy has chosen United ahead of their Premier League rivals after a whirlwind tour of the clubs.

“Overy, 16, left Perth Glory when his family moved to Devon and he was playing for Newton Abbot Spurs in a brief spell.

“United have offered Overy a three year deal and will compensate Perth Glory for him under FIFA transfer rules.

“Overy was given the VIP treatment by United during his stay, training with their top kids and also staying at Hotel Football opposite Old Trafford.

“While he was there Overy was papped’ in front of cartoons of United legends he now could follow.”

Everton must not get dissuaded post transfer failure

The potential signing of Overy by Manchester United should not discourage the Toffees from continuing their youth recruitment drive.

While the teenager’s decision to join the Red Devils is undoubtedly a setback for Everton, it highlights the competitive nature of the youth transfer market and the importance of identifying and securing promising young talent.

The Merseyside outfit’s focus on youth recruitment is a strategic move aimed at building a strong foundation for the future.

By investing in young players, the club can develop a pipeline of talent that can contribute to the first team in the long term.

This approach not only helps the club maintain a competitive edge but also provides a sustainable model for growth and success.

Furthermore, Overy’s signing by Manchester United demonstrates the attractiveness of Everton’s youth recruitment strategy to top young talents and hopefully, they continue the trend on signing the cream of the crop.
