Farhad Moshiri continues 777 Partners talks despite Everton takeover collapse

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri intends to continue takeover discussions with 777 Partners despite the expiration of their agreement to purchase the club, according to the Daily Mirror.

Moshiri reportedly “feels an obligation” to keep 777 in the loop regarding future ownership talks, having received over £200million from the US investment firm throughout this season.

The Toffees’ increasing debts have been aided somewhat by the contributions made by 777, however, the Miami-based group were unable to meet the Premier League’s requirements before 31 May.

It is added that those debts could rise as high as £1billion after Moshiri provided an unsecured loan for £450million, making a straightforward takeover by 777 or a third party increasingly unlikely.

777 Partners shambles seems set to continue at Everton

Everton fans will know that 31 May did not necessarily bring good news – the club are now back at square one in terms of talking to potential buyers – but would have been happy to see the back of 777.

The group’s inability to meet Premier League requirements, and their relationship with Moshiri, meant that takeover talks have dragged on for over eight months, largely going around in circles.

Therefore, the news that Moshiri is keen to keep 777 in the fold will not be welcome at Goodison Park, particularly given that the Iranian’s reasoning for doing so is essentially built on sand.

It also opens up the possibility of MSP becoming the club’s potential new owners, but with Moshiri still unable to let 777 go, it remains to be seen how long they, or any other third-party buyer, will remain on the scene long enough to make any progress.

Yet more confusion is to be expected.
