Everton takeover ‘victory’ sparks call for Farhad Moshiri removal from Goodison board

Farhad Moshiri should be removed from the Everton board after his agreement with 777 Partners expired in a “victory” for the club, according to The Esk.

Writing on his website on 1 June, after the embattled Miami firm’s deadline passed overnight and the club then confirmed the deal was over, the Toffees analyst termed the development a major positive for the club to avoid the similar chaos as is currently being experienced by 777’s other clubs around the world.

But he believes that with Moshiri still in charge it is only a “victory of sorts” as the club’s majority shareholder remains the “primary cause of our problems”, and advocates for his removal from the board to be replaced by non-executive directors representing his interests instead.

This move is proposed as part of a five-point play involving various outside parties being brought into the process to ensure a suitable new owner is now found.

Will 777 Partners exit provide Everton answers?

Moshiri’s decision to agree a deal with 777 Partners in September and then give them 37 weeks’ time to get a takeover done despite the mounting appearance that it wasn’t going to happen may suggest his judgment is open to question.

But he remains the majority shareholder and since MSP Sports Capital appear to be content to leave him in charge to facilitate the sale of his shares [i News, 31 May] it is perhaps wishful thinking for him to stand aside and let the deal be done for him.

If Moshiri’s commitment to 777 was born out of the Americans’ being the party who agreed to pay him the most it has backfired since they haven’t proven capable of paying him anything.

It has been widely suggested that the Everton chief is going to be the one who takes a financial hit to eventually get a deal done, so the next steps may depend on to what degree he has now accepted that fact.

Farhad Moshiri will be keen to find new Everton owners.

The very public emergence of John Textor as an interested party means little unless the part-owner of Crystal Palace can sell his shares at Selhurst Park, which hasn’t been the case for some time.

And since MSP have held back from exercising their option to acquire the majority of Moshiri’s Everton holding it appears at this stage that the identity of the club’s next owners is still yet to emerge.
