Kieran Maguire shares Everton takeover verdict live on talkSPORT after 777 Partners ‘disaster’
Kieran Maguire has admitted that “an awful lot of people” remain interested in Everton after 777 Partners’ takeover collapsed at Goodison Park.
Farhad Moshiri and the American firm had been locked in talks over a buyout on the blue half of Merseyside, but could never satisfy the Premier League’s requirements and the deadline for their deal passed on 31 May.
While some have viewed the collapse as a worrying update for the Toffees, football finance expert Maguire has insisted it could be a good thing for the Toffees suggesting 777’s takeover would have been a “disaster”.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Saturday (1 June) he said: “I think this is actually good news rather than bad. There are an awful lot of people interested in the club who want what is best for the club, anyone connected to 777’s business wouldn’t have necessarily been able to say the same.
“I think they are actually in a better position than they were in yesterday, in the sense that 777 would have been a disaster as far as ownership is concerned.
“Change doesn’t necessarily mean improvement and in the case of 777 it would have been a frying pan not just into fire but the gates of hell.”
Has 777 Partners’ takeover of Everton collapsed at Goodison Park?
While most Everton fans will be desperate to see a change of ownership at Goodison Park, it has been clear for some time now that 777 Partners were not the right party to succeed Moshiri at the top of the club.
Across the portfolio of businesses, the Miami-based firm is struggling financially with football clubs being handed transfer bans, airlines hiring administrators and even accusations of fraud being banded around.

While their financial support has provided a crutch over the last few months, 777 were never going to be the right owner to take over the reins at Goodison Park. Thankfully, that is no longer a realistic prospect.
Hopefully, an alternative investor can be found as quickly as possible so that fans and players alike can begin looking ahead to a brighter future. It may seem like a setback at the moment, but this could be the best thing for Everton.
