Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite wanted as Erik ten Hag sack decision to spark move
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is on Manchester United’s list of targets, but the Red Devils will decide on Erik ten Hag’s future first, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Toffees gem has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the lead-up to the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting he is high among the list of targets being considered [Sky Sports News, 29 May].
Whilst it had been suggested the 21-year-old would be considered even if Ten Hag was sacked by United, transfer specialist Romano has insisted no move will be made until the Dutchman’s future is decided.
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Monday (3 June, 4:00) Romano said: “For Manchester United, I told you they were working to bring in a new right-footed centre-back for sure, this is one of the priorities for the summer.
“Jean-Claire Todibo is on the list, Branthwaite is on the list and Gleison Bremer is on the list so Manchester United as soon as they clarify the manager position will go for a new right-footed centre-half.
“But Manchester United are also actively working on the possibility to bring in one more centre-back, a left-footed one. It is not guaranteed yet, but this is something they’re considering internally.”
Will Manchester United sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton amid Erik ten Hag sack talk?
Speculation around Branthwaite’s future at Goodison Park began ahead of the January transfer window and as the summer window edges closer, it seems unlikely the rumour mill will stop anytime soon.
Sean Dyche will be desperate to keep the young defender on Merseyside for a while longer yet, but it is beginning to feel unlikely that the Toffees will be able to reject a big bid for the centre-back if it did arrive.
The current PSR situation at Everton means there is an expectation one or two of the most valuable players could be forced out of Goodison Park and there are few assets more valuable in Dyche’s side than Branthwaite.
It remains to be seen if and when United will make a decision over Ten Hag’s future and how that could impact their interest in Dyche, but it seems likely that the Red Devils will test the Blues’ resolve regardless of who is in charge at Old Trafford.
