Sean Dyche given Jordan Pickford boost at Everton as Fabrizio Romano shares Chelsea update
The transfer window may not have even opened for Everton yet, but speculation is already rife around Goodison Park about potential outgoings.
The Toffees’ current financial situation means that there is an expectation Sean Dyche’s side will have to sell at least one of their biggest stars before the end of June to avoid a potential point deduction for a PSR breach.
While a majority of the early transfer rumours seem to be based around Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, one of the other names being linked with the Goodison exit door is Jordan Pickford.
Reports have suggested that the England number one could potentially consider leaving Merseyside this summer, with Chelsea understood to be one of the sides interested in securing his services [Graeme Bailey, 1 May].
Will Everton and Sean Dyche sell Jordan Pickford during the transfer window amid Chelsea interest?
Despite these reports, the Toffees and Dyche may have just boosted their chances of keeping the stopper this summer after Fabrizio Romano shared an update following Enzo Maresca’s appointment.
Writing on X on Monday (3 June) Romano said: “Understand Chelsea’s new coach Maresca told the board that he really likes Roberto Sánchez.
“Maresca, looking forward to working with the Spanish goalkeeper next season as he believes Robert is ready for the next phase of his career. Chelsea expect Sánchez to stay at the club this summer.”
It is clear from that statement that the new Blues boss is planning for Sanchez to be his number-one keeper when he officially gets to work at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Pickford is unlikely to be willing to be a second choice at his age and if Maresca intends on working with Sanchez, the England number one would have to fight it out with Djordje Petrovic for a place on Chelsea’s bench.
Hopefully, this update will have helped the Toffees and Dyche’s hopes of keeping the 30-year-old at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future.
