Everton to watch closely as Manchester City launch Premier League legal action
Everton will be keeping a close eye on developments amid reports that Manchester City have launched legal action against the Premier League.
The Times reported on Tuesday (4 June) that City’s “unprecedented” move has “sparked civil war” in the top flight of English football.
It comes on the back of the reigning champions being charged with 115 alleged breaches of the division’s regulations and financial rules.

City’s legal action, which will supposedly begin at a private arbitration hearing early next week, could have a massive impact on that other case.
This all comes amid the backdrop of Everton’s two points deductions last season for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The Premier League clearly wanted to send out a message by twice hitting the Toffees, but the club still managed to stay up fairly comfortably.
Supporters will not forgive league chiefs – and more specifically top dog Richard Masters – for deducting the club eight points in total.
One the one hand, Everton fans would love to see the Premier League have a taste of their own medicine with regards to City’s legal action.
On the other hand, many have been asking exactly when City will be docked any points – if that is the case – given their huge rap sheet.

Either way, this legal action, which relates to Associated Party Transaction rules, could well change the landscape of the Premier League.
If City are successful, it means they, Newcastle United and others could value their sponsorship deals without independent assessment.

On that front, it is of no benefit to Everton if the richest clubs in the division are given the green light to spend what they like.
It is now over to the courtroom – something Everton fans have become accustomed to – and all those from a Toffees persuasion can do is await to see what the outcome is.
In other Everton news, a cut-price exit could now be on the cards at Goodison Park.
