Seamus Coleman drops new Everton contract hint with one-year extension on offer
Everton defender Seamus Coleman has dropped a new hint over his contract plans ahead of Ireland’s clash with Hungary.
The veteran defender’s current deal at Goodison Park expires at the end of June, but the Toffees have confirmed that the 35-year-old has been offered a one-year extension to his contract alongside Ashley Young.
Although that extension is yet to be signed, Coleman may have just suggested that he intends to accept the offer admitting in an interview that he couldn’t imagine playing for anyone else than the Toffees.
Speaking to Irish outlet RTE Sport (3 June) he said: “It was a tough three seasons but last year was equally as tough with the point deductions and all that stuff.
“But thankfully we as a team and a fanbase came together and got over the line which we’re very proud of. But the last few weeks have been just about switching off from all of that, taking a break with the family and coming away here.
“Listen, Everton is a massive part of me and a massive part of what I do and I couldn’t see myself anywhere else, to be honest with you.”
Has Seamus Coleman signed a new contract with Everton at Goodison Park?
While Coleman was once again hampered by injury for much of the season, his experience and know-how of the Premier League makes him an invaluable part of Sean Dyche’s squad even when he is stuck on the treatment table.
Partner that with the fact that the Toffees aren’t blessed with strength in depth at fullback and it makes it a no-brainer that they should be doing all that they feesably can to try and keep him for at least another year.

He won’t play every week, but when he’s called upon he is more than capable of doing a job, as he showed in the final-day defeat to Arsenal where he kept Leandro Trossard reasonably quiet for most of the match.
Hopefully, Coleman will get through these international friendlies unscathed and then sign on the dotted line at Goodison. It is unlikely there will be much business in or out of the club this summer, so this could be one of the bigger transfer announcements.
