Sammie Szmodics to Everton transfer claim made after Blackburn Rovers heroics
ESPN commentator Ian Darke has picked out Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics as the ideal summer signing for Everton.
Respected personality Darke was asked to name one player each Premier League club should look to sign in an article for ESPN [6 June].
While bringing in a prolific centre-forward of Szmodics’ calibre would be nice, though, financing a deal is another matter entirely.
“Finances are a touchy subject at Goodison Park after the club was hit with two separate points deductions by the Premier League for breaching financial regulations,” Darke wrote.
“But they’ll need to splash some cash to solve their main problem – a lack of goals. Blackburn Rovers’ Sammie Szmodics, who scored 27 goals on a struggling team in the Championship during the 2023-24 campaign, could be the right player at the right price.”
Everton move for Sammie Szmodics simply not possible
Szmodics will be a player in demand this summer after a hugely impressive campaign last time around, which has only added to his transfer valuation.
There will undoubtedly be Premier League suitors in for him, but Everton unfortunately will not be one of them.
Until the takeover situation is resolved, and the dust effectively settles, the Toffees will not be splashing out eight-figure sums on players.
That is the bottom line and is an unfortunate truth supporters have become accustomed to. The only way around it is if a club like Chelsea were to make a massive bid for Dominic Calvert-Lewin that is accepted.

Some of those funds could then go towards bringing in a player like Szmodics, with the leftover change helping to keep the club financially afloat.
Unless that happens, though, it will likely be a case of relying on loan signings and freebies again.
In other Everton news, international media have raved about a “boss” Toffees player after what he did on Wednesday (5 June).
