Aston Villa and PSG approach Everton over Amadou Onana transfer amid Arsenal update

Everton have received enquiries from Paris Saint Germain and Aston Villa for Amadou Onana, according to The Times.

The paper reported via their website on 14 June that the two clubs have made contact over the Belgian midfielder, whom the Toffees are hoping to sell before the end of the month in order to satisfy profit and sustainability pressures.

Everton believe they can make a profit on the 22-year-old who arrived at Goodison Park two summers ago from Lille for £34million, when he was described as a “sensational talent” by French journalist Julien Laurens [Liverpool Echo].

Arsenal have also made an approach [Echo, 14 June], with the Toffees looking for a £50m fee, but according to The Times report the Gunners are not ready to follow up their interest.

Manchester United bid for Jarrad Branthwaite the same day but their “unacceptable” low offer was rejected [Echo, 14 June], which the Times indicate is based in part on their plan to instead sell Onana.

Everton reject Jarrad Branthwaite bid in Amadou Onana sale hope

The transfer window has barely opened and already it looks like Everton are going to be busy early this summer.

Branthwaite looks to have the greater transfer value and as a £1m arrival from Carlisle [Daily Mail] it would constitute a huge profit, but he is seemingly more valuable to Sean Dyche as a certain starter, compared to Onana who was sometimes left on the bench last term.

So it looks to be a positive development that a market to sell the latter is developing quickly, although interest is one thing and concrete bids of the required size are another.

Aston Villa have their own PSR concerns [The Athletic, 13 June] so whether they would be willing to put the necessary cash on the table remains to be seen, but while PSG may have moved away from their own galactico era with the departures of Neymar, Lionel Messi and now Kylian Mbappe the French giants might represent the best hope of a lucrative deal.

The Toffees look to be maintaining their stance that they don’t have to sell Branthwaite for cheap, despite what they appear to believe at Old Trafford.

But it would help make that issue a moot point if Kevin Thelwell could wrap up a deal to move Onana on in the next fortnight and simplify the transfer window moving forward.

In other Everton news, a Toffees buyer has been told they are set for a takeover deal and then left hanging.
