Fabrizio Romano shares Everton development in Jarrad Branthwaite to Manchester United

Manchester United have seen a bid turned down by Everton for their star centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer specialist reported via his Daily Briefing Patreon [15 June] that Man United must increase their bid from £35million, with the Toffees holding out for between £65 and £70m.

This comes after the journalist reported on Friday (14 June) that the two clubs had not entered advanced talks over a summer transfer yet, though the 21-year-old is said to have agreed personal terms [The Times]

“Manchester United will sign a new centre-back in the summer transfer window and they made a bid for Jarrad Branthwaite, but Everton want at least £65m/£70m to sell him, not the £35m offered by Manchester United,” he said.

“That’s why at the moment there’s no agreement between the parties, but Branthwaite remains one of three names they have on the list for the new centre-back. They appreciate Todibo but there are more options on Manchester United’s shortlist and this is why they are not desperate.”

Everton to prepare themselves for Jarrad Branthwaite exit this summer

The Branthwaite to Man United saga is likely to continue far into the summer transfer window, especially with it seeming that the player is open to an Old Trafford move.

Having experienced a sensational season at Goodison Park, creating a formidable partnership with James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford in defence, many European clubs have taken notice of his form.

The trio were part of a defence that only conceded more goals than Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League, leading the club away from relegation.

While Branthwaite is set to be one of the most sought-after players in the market this summer, it appears that Everton’s asking price could be a barrier for many clubs, which will please the Evertonians.

Jarrad Branthwaite is likely to leave Everton

With the recent news surrounding the club’s takeover – Dan Friedkin has had an offer accepted by Farhad Moshiri – the Toffees will be under less pressure to solve their financial worries by offloading star players.

The ball is firmly back in the Red Devils’ court now, and the club must increase their offer quite significantly if Branthwaite is to leave Goodison Park this summer.

In other Everton news, a takeover should be finalised by August as a timeline is mooted at Goodison Park.
