Andros Townsend reacts to Clive Tyldesley Amadou Onana Everton exit claim live on ITV

Andros Townsend believes Everton still hold a strong hand when it comes to the future of exit-linked midfielder Amadou Onana.

Former Toffees winger Townsend was on co-commentary for ITV (17 June) as Onana’s Belgium were losing 1-0 to Slovakia at Euro 2024.

Onana has been heavily tipped for a Goodison Park departure this summer as Everton will likely need to sell at least one asset due to Profit and Sustainability fears.

Arsenal and Aston VIlla (TeamTalk, 15 June) are among the clubs linked with his signature and commentator Clive Tyldesley hinted that an exit will happen, saying: “I’m sorry Everton fans, where he’ll end up is probably not Goodison Park next season.

“He is a man in demand and he wants to be, he’s made no secret of the fact that he wants to parade his talents during this tournament.

“Arsenal and Aston Villa are the names that are being mentioned most often in association with 6 feet 4 Amadou Onana.”

This sparked a retort from Townsend, who reminded Tyldesley that Onana still has a contract with Everton, saying: “He’s also got about three years left on his contract so he can say what he wants.”

Where does the future of Everton ace Amadou Onana lie?

As with a lot of Everton’s talent this summer, it’s unlikely that they will be sticking around for the 2024/25 season.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Onana are the two who have been most strongly linked with a move away as the former has even reportedly had a bid from Manchester United rejected already (Fabrizio Romano, 15 June).

Depending on his performances throughout Euro 2024, Onana could easily find himself playing for a Champions League side next season.

Especially with the likes of Arsenal being among the teams who are reportedly vying for his transfer this summer.

The sale of the Belgium international would also make a lot of sense for the Toffees as they will need to make some sales in order to not be hit by PSR once again.

And, with a takeover now all but officially announced, this summer could be an ideal chance for Everton to rebuild and work their way up the Premier League table once again.

In other Everton news, an approach has reportedly been made for Toffes striker, Beto.
