Everton hold talks with agent of Mats Hummels over free transfer move

Everton have held talks with the agent of Mats Hummels about signing him on a free transfer this summer, according to HITC.

Writing on their website (17 June), the news outlet report that the player’s representatives have offered the World Cup winner’s services after he left Borussia Dortmund at the end of his contract.

Hummels is keen on a move to the Premier League and several clubs in the division have been spoken to, including the Toffees about a move, and they are now deciding whether to make an offer or not.

Everton to sign Mats Hummels on free transfer?

Everton have got a whole heap of financial issues currently at the club, but there are set to be new owners with Dan Friedkin set to buy the club from Farhad Moshiri imminently.

But aside from that, free transfers are always a good way for the club to strengthen their squad just as they did with Ashley Young last summer when he added experience and quality to the side.

Hummels would come in with a huge pedigree and still in his pomp, having been a key part of the Dortmund side that reached the Champions League final just last month.

But at 35-years-old he is now past his best, and with James Tarkowski a favourite of Sean Dyche’s and Jarrad Branthwaite someone the club are desperate to keep, it would be a slightly odd move.

Should Branthwaite move on for the huge fee the club are expecting to receive for him then it could be smart business to bring Hummels in as a short-term replacement, but it won’t be easy to get the deal done and seems highly unlikely to be something that happens.

In other Everton news, Manchester United eye swap deal for Jarrad Branthwaite alternative with talks stalling over £70m fee.
