Everton make offers to sign player from Dan Friedkin’s Roma amid takeover process

Everton have made offers to Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove who could be on the move this summer, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

According to the Sky Sports Italy journalist, via his website on 18 June, the Toffees like the Italian and have already put forward attempts to sign him from the Italian side where he is allowed to leave.

Bournemouth are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old, who made a total of 45 appearances in all competitions last term under first Jose Mourinho and then Daniele De Rossi.

Roma are of course owned by American Dan Friedkin whose takeover of Everton is believed to now be on the brink of being confirmed [TMW, 18 June].

The club are also reported to be in advanced talks over a deal to sign another young midfielder in Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa [The Atheltic, 18 June].

The interest in Bove may be coincidental to the takeover links but if Friedkin’s buyout of Farhad Moshiri gets waved through in the coming weeks it would presumably make it easier to land the midfielder.

Whether Everton have the capability to do a permanent deal on top of the proposed move for Iroegbunam, or just a loan, likely depends on who leaves Goodison Park this summer.

It looks like Amadou Onana is going to as he has given various interviews ahead of the Euros indicating he is ready to move on, the club see a sale as a good route to secure themselves against profit and sustainability pressure, and multiple clubs have already come forward with interest since the transfer window opened [The Times, 14 June].

Edoardo Bove

Bove may not have the same international profile as the exit-linked Belgian star but certainly has more top-level experience than Iroegbunam, with the Italian already having amassed 92 first-team appearances for Roma.

Sean Dyche’s squad is a thin one so there is surely space for both, but there is a much clearer need to bring in some wide options to go along with Dwight McNeil.

Jack Harrison returning from Leeds United is said to be a “key ambition” in that regard [Liverpool Echo, 5 June], and a second loan is possible there.

In other Everton news, the Toffees believe an exit-linked ace is in fact happy to remain at the club.
