Everton transfer development slammed as ‘farcical’ as Tim Iroegbunam news emerges
Alan Nixon has slammed a “farcical” transfer scenario involving Everton and their pursuit of Aston Villa ace Tim Iroegbunam.
HITC reported on Tuesday (17 June) that Everton are to spend around £10million on signing Iroegbunam from Villa.
That was followed by news via The Athletic (18 June) that Lewis Dobbin could head the opposite way.
Meanwhile, in supposedly separate deals, Ian Maatsen has been linked with a move from Chelsea to Villa, while Jhon Duran could be on his way to Stamford Bridge.
Asked about the situations involving the three clubs, and the “mockery” it makes of PSR, journalist Nixon replied on his X account [19 June]: “It was always going to happen. Farcical times.”
Everton and Aston Villa look to complete transfer deals
There is no doubt that clubs are now being smart with their transfer dealings given the PSR farce of last season – something Everton know all too well.
Villa have also been told they must operate wisely this summer, which is surprising when they are bidding close to £40m for Maatsen.
The way around this, of course, is to effectively offer Duran in a swap deal. The same looks to be true for Everton and Villa in terms of their transfer business.
It means that players can be recruited and the balance sheets will look the better for it. Some people may consider that “farcical”; others will consider is as being wise.
As for the deal itself, Iroegbunam looks to be a very talented prospect and hopefully Sean Dyche is able to get the most out of him at Goodison Park should the transfer now go through as expected.
In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin could be set to sack Sean Dyche as manager once he completes his takeover of the club.
