Farhad Moshiri slammed by expert in Everton takeover ‘disappointment’ amid £500m news
Kieran Maguire has slammed Farhad Moshiri and Everton for their continued silence regarding the takeover situation.
Dan Friedkin is said to have an agreement in place to purchase the Toffees following the collapse of the 777 Partners takeover [Il Messaggero, 16 June].
Maguire values the deal in the region of £500million, which is the same amount the Friedkin group paid to purchase Roma, whom they will continue to own.
While the latest news is ultimately good news for Everton, football finance expert Maguire is unsure why there continues to be radio silence in terms of official communication.
“They have now become frontrunners, but what we’re not getting is news from the club itself – i.e. Farhad Moshiri – and that’s the disappointment,” he said on The Price of Football podcast [20 June, 16m 19s].
“Moshiri’s not handled this particularly well in terms of being proactive, communicating and being transparent with the fanbase. He’s looking after number one to get the most money.
“He’s going to have to write off a huge amount realistically. But as far as this deal is concerned, as I understand, it won’t involve the club taking on further debt.
“Could that involve some existing loans being paid off as part of the overall deal? We’ll have to wait and see. But I’m far more positive in relation to the Everton situation.”
Friedkin Group perfect for Everton takeover
As Maguire says, the way Moshiri has gone about this takeover is quite simply despicable.
For close to a year now, Everton fans have mainly had to rely on information via the press with regards to the future of their football club.
Nobody is asking for updates by the hour, or indeed daily, but it would be nice to know exactly what the situation is right now.
It seems as though the Friedkin Group is close to officially taking over from Moshiri at Goodison Park, which would be great news.

As they have shown at Roma, they are able to run a club and bring success. It is a far cry from 777, a group in which left a trail of destruction at every club in its stable.
This has been a strange, and often worrying, period in Everton’s history. Thankfully, it now appears to be nearing an end and supporters can look ahead to a brighter future.
