Everton and Aston Villa complete two transfers in Lewis Dobbin medical and documents update

Lewis Dobbin’s move from Everton to Aston Villa is now being completed to follow Tim Iroegbunam’s switch in the opposite direction, Fabrizio Romano reports.

The Italian reported via Twitter on 21 June that the Toffees winger’s Villa Park medical was being conducted the same day with just documents to review before it is made official.

The 21-year-old winger leaves Goodison Park as 20-year-old midfielder Iroegbunam comes in for around £10million, having completed his own medical 24 hours earlier.

Romano wrote: “Everton and Aston Villa complete both Tim Iroegbunam + Lewis Dobbin deals. Tim Iroegbunam joins Everton from Aston Villa on permanent deal, medical done yesterday.

“Lewis Dobbin, joining Villa from Everton with medical today. Documents to review then all done.”

The moves come as Jack Harrison’s return from Leeds United on a second loan has also been wrapped up [Romano, 21 June].

What looked like it might be another frustrating transfer window where most of the activity happened elsewhere has turned into a busy one on Merseyside already.

It looks like two clubs who were facing potential issues from a profit and sustainability point of view have found a way to avoid problems on that front by swapping a pair of young players who haven’t featured heavily [The Athletic, 21 June].

The PSR problems at Goodison Park seem to be smaller than originally thought [David Ornstein, 18 June], and this may now mean there is no pressure to make moves the club would rather avoid.

Manchester United thought a cut-price deal for Jarrad Branthwaite would be possible thanks to the Toffees’ financial situation [Mirror, 14 June] but have been frustrated by an insistence on any move being worth full value, which it doesn’t look like will happen.

Harrison’s arrival seemed likely once Daniel Farke’s Whites failed to gain Premier League promotion, and gives Sean Dyche a second senior winger in a squad that will still be very light at the position with Dobbins’ exit.

Iroegbunam wants more game time and with the departure of Amadou Onana on the cards it is seen as the perfect opportunity for him to push for that under Dyche [Daily Mail, 18 June].

Two in and one out within a week of the transfer window opening more than many would have thought would be on the cards at Goodison Park, and with the takeover moving in the right direction things might be looking up at last.
