Dominic Calvert-Lewin makes Everton transfer decision after Newcastle United update
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is pushing for the exit door with a transfer to Newcastle United on the cards, according to TEAMtalk.
It was reported on 22 June that having rejected an improved contract at Goodison Park, Calvert-Lewin’s sights are set on a move to Newcastle with 12 months remaining on his current deal.
The striker had been expected to attract interest this summer given his contractual situation, albeit the Toffees had hoped he would extend his eight-year stay on Merseyside despite their financial worries [TEAMtalk].
While a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, Calvert-Lewin’s stance on the transfer will likely force Everton into accepting an offer, to avoid losing their number nine for free next summer.
Everton face striker hunt after Dominic Calvert-Lewin update
Not seeing Calvert-Lewin donning the Blues’ number nine shirt will be a strange feeling for the Goodison Park faithful next season, with the 27-year-old being a first-choice up front for the past six campaigns.
With finances stretched, the last thing the Toffees needed this summer was one of their key players leaving for a cut-price fee, particularly one who has top-scored for the club in three of those six seasons [Paul Brown].

However, one positive for the Blues is the fact that by making his intentions to leave clear, Calvert-Lewin’s departure may be sealed before the end of June – the end of the financial calendar in football [Liverpool Echo].
That would go some way towards alleviating the profit and sustainability pressures the club are under, while also allowing them to get their pursuit of a replacement underway as soon as possible.
Beto and Youssef Chermiti are both yet to prove themselves as regular Premier League strikers, and if recent transfer reports are to be believed, Sean Dyche could be looking towards a completely different kind of forward to fill the hole vacated by Calvert-Lewin [Gianluca Di Marzio].
