Everton open talks to beat Liverpool to Yankuba Minteh signing as Newcastle news emerges
Everton are in discussions with Newcastle over a move for in-demand Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh, according to talkSPORT.
Minteh, 19, spent the last season on loan at Feyenoord under Arne Slot and is on the radar of several European and Premier League sides.
This would be a separate deal despite Newcastle’s interest in Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Magpies’ interest in Calvert-Lewin has been reignited this summer with discussions ongoing but yet to progress. The two deals would, however, help to solve both clubs’ PSR issues.
Minteh, who has been heavily linked with a move away from St. James’ Park, enjoyed an impressive 11 goals in 37 appearances for Feyenoord. The attacking midfielder is also on the radar of several top European clubs, including interest from the likes of Roma, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool.
Despite signing for Newcastle in June 2023 and going on loan immediately, Minteh could leave for a profit.
He shone at Feyenoord enough that he wowed new Liverpool boss Arne Slot, who spotlighted his speed and his improved decision-making.
Assuming Everton nail Minteh down, he’d follow their first summer signee Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa.
What could Minteh bring to Everton?
If Minteh decides to walk out on Newcastle after his loan spell at Feyenoord, he could be a game-changer for the Toffees.
The 19-year-old has great pace and ability to beat players. Quick in acceleration and dribbling, he is always a threat down the wings, as he can stretch defences to get space for teammates.
Minteh also showed in his loan spell at Feyenoord his ability to pop up with goals, scoring 11 times in 37 appearances. The fact that he can contribute by hitting the net from the wing will add one more dimension to Everton’s attack.
Additionally, his versatility enables Minteh to feature in any of the attacking positions. His creativity, whether through accurate delivery in a cross or his ability to deliver a key pass, would boost Everton’s offensive options.
At only 19, Minteh has a lot to grow into. His youthful energy and potential are very well tailored for Everton’s strategy of making a dynamic, future-oriented squad. His performances so far have shown that he could turn out to be important in the long term for the Toffees.

Under Arne Slot at Feyenoord, Minteh has further developed his work ethic and tactical awareness. His ability to track back and make some integral contributions in defence would serve as an asset in the high-pressing style favoured by Everton boss Sean Dyche.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have now issued contact with their Premier League rivals to sign a midfielder who recently won the Champions League.
