Everton in final stages to sign Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille – Fabrizio Romano
Everton are in the final stages of a deal for Marseille striker Iliman Ndiaye, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on his personal X account (24 June), the reliable transfer journalist says the player has already said yes to the Toffees and just the final details need to be clarified on the deal before it gets the “Here We Go” treatment.
Ndiaye joined Marseille from Sheffield United last summer in a deal worth around £20million, and a deal is believed to be costing a similar amount to bring him back to the Premier League [Abdellah Boulma, 24 June].
Everton make move for brand new striker
The striker position at Goodison Park is one that absolutely needs to be strengthened, after a campaign that saw the team score just 41 goals – only more than Sheffield United and Burnley.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness issues seem to be behind him but he is in the final year of his deal and could be en route out of the club, while Beto arrived for £30million last summer but struggled to make a huge impact.
Youssef Chermiti also signed but his rawness was evident and a loan could be best for him, meaning a new striker is necessary.
Ndiaye is someone the club has looked at for a while, but £20million is a big outlay for a player who managed just four goals in 46 appearances in Ligue 1.
But if Sean Dyche has a plan for Ndiaye to be in the team and make them better then he deserves to be trusted in that sense, and it will be interesting to see how the team looks come the opening day of the season.
