Newcastle United make Dominic Calvert-Lewin transfer decision amid Everton exit talks – Alan Myers
Newcastle United have pulled out of the race to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to Alan Myers.
Writing on his personal X account (24 June), the Sky Sports journalist reports that the Magpies will not sign the Toffees forward after holding talks about a deal.
Everton valued the 27-year-old at £37million (Paul Joyce, 23 June) despite him entering the final year of his contract, which he is not inclined to extend [Times, 22 June] despite an offer on the table from the club [Liverpool Echo, 31 May].
Dominic Calvert-Lewin won’t be joining Newcastle from Everton
There has been a lot of talk about Calvert-Lewin potentially leaving Goodison Park this summer, with so much emphasis on the fact there is just one year left on his deal.
After an injury-plagued two years, the striker managed 38 appearances last season and was the team’s top scorer with eight goals, earning plenty of praise from Sean Dyche.
So it was no shock when a new deal was put on the table to keep him at the club, but with the club’s financial situation it wasn’t a surprise to see several teams make their interest known.
He still clearly has something to offer and should know that Dyche has his best interests at heart after keeping him fit for the first time in a long time.
But the player was open to an exit and keen on a move to the Magpies, so it will be very interesting to see how the collapse of this transfer affects him over the course of the rest of the transfer window.
