Everton receive new Ben Godfrey bid as £12m+ update emerges

Everton have received a fresh bid from Lyon worth £12.7million for centre-back Ben Godfrey, according to the BBC.

The British broadcaster reported via its website on 27 June that along with the Ligue 1 side, Atalanta are also keen on the 26-year-old.

Godfrey, who moved to Goodison Park in 2020 for £25million, has another year left on his deal at the club.

Everton must stick to their £15million valuation

The fact that more than clubs are competing for his signature suggests that the Toffees’ valuation is reasonable and that there is a genuine market for the player.

If they were to lower their asking price, they risk undervaluing the English defender and potentially missing out on a higher fee.

Moreover, the club needs to recoup as much money as possible from the sale of Godfrey, especially considering the financial difficulties they are currently facing.

Selling him for less than their valuation would be a missed opportunity to generate much-needed funds.

Additionally, sticking to their valuation sends a message to other clubs that the Merseyside outfit are not desperate to sell and are willing to hold out for a fair price.
