Everton to accept £50m Amadou Onana bid as replacement already in place
Everton should consider accepting a £50million offer for Amadou Onana as they already have a replacement ready in Tim Iroegbunam, Dan Bardell has said.
Onana, 22, has been consistently linked with a Goodison Park exit in recent month and Foot Mercato reported (27 June) that the Belgian is attracting interest from PSG after his performances at EURO 2024.
Sky Sports reported (25 June) that the Toffees value their midfield asset at around £50m, with Premier League sides Arsenal and Aston Villa also showing interest (The Times, 14 June).
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has earmarked Iroegbunam – who joined from Aston Villa earlier this month (talkSPORT, 22 June) as a potential replacement and suggested selling Onana makes sense for all parties.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “Obviously the Tim Iroegbunam signing has to be factored in.
“A big PSR agreement with Aston Villa but he could prove to be a replacement option for him. Onana lost his place towards the end of last season and now he’s playing in the EUROs so he has high value.
“I think selling him makes sense, it would allow Sean Dyche to shape his squad and bring in better quality in more positions.
“I do think he’s a good player and he has high potential but he’s not someone I’ve ever been raving about. I think Everton fans would rather sell him than Branthwaite for big money this summer so if they can get £50m for him I think Everton should accept that.“
Everton star Amadou Onana linked to PSG
Originally it was thought Onana could be sold to alleviate any lingering Profit and Sustainability concerns but given the deadline for PSR accounts is Sunday (30 June) it looks like that won’t be the case.
But it might be that Everton still decide the take the money as it could help with their PSR parameters in the future while also providing some cash to try and bring in their own transfer reinforcements.
Onana has been performing well for Belgium at the European Championship, which might also help drive up interest and his price.
He has been generally a success story at Goodison Park since joining from Lille back in 2022 even if consistency of performance hasn’t always been there.

But, with the elite level of some of the teams interested in signing the midfielder, the fee that Everton can now demand will be sizable.
His sale could allow for Dyche to add plenty of fresh faces to his squad which may stand to benefit the Toffees moving forward and in Iroegbunam he might already have someone who can fill the void in the squad.
