Crystal Palace move ahead of Everton in race for Aster Vranckx as £15m development emerges

Crystal Palace have moved ahead of Everton in the race to sign Wolfsburg midfielder Aster Vranckx this summer, according to HITC.

Writing on their website (3 July), the news outlet report that the Toffees are keen to sign the Belgium international [Sacha Tavolieri, 18 June], but they face competition from Brighton, Fulham and Palace.

And the Eagles have moved ahead of everyone in the race for his signature, with the Bundesliga club valuing the 21-year-old at £15million.

Everton want to sign Aster Vranckx

There is a big expectation at Goodison Park this summer that Amadou Onana could be moved on, with confidence growing that Aston Villa could complete a £50million swoop [TEAMtalk, 15 June] and Vranckx could potentially be the ideal replacement.

Tim Iroegbunam has already been brought in from Aston Villa in a deal worth £10million, but with Dele Alli and Andre Gomes leaving at the end of their contracts there is still space for another midfielder to help strengthen the squad.

The club avoided any PSR issues by making sales and are now seemingly free to spend their budget for the summer, having spent almost £20million to bring Iliman Ndiaye to the club in attack.

But Vranckx is entering the final year of his contract and at £15million he could be a shrewd bit of business considering his age and profile, in a similar way to how the club signed Onana.

Vranckx didn’t feature at Euro 2024 for Belgium despite being in the squad, which means his price wasn’t driven up at all, but now the Toffees must move quickly to get their man if they’re serious about their interest.

In other Everton news, developments are expected next week after an official offer was tabled for a Toffees-linked star.
