Dominic Calvert-Lewin wants to leave Everton for Newcastle United, rejects new contract
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has rejected a new contract with Everton and wants to leave the club for Newcastle, according to Graeme Bailey.
Speaking to Everton.news (4 July), the HITC journalist reports that the striker “wants to go” to St James’ Park and a deal still has legs despite the Magpies pulling out of talks last month [Luke Edwards, 24 June].
Everton offered the striker a new deal but he has turned it down, and Bailey has speculated that Newcastle could return to do a deal in August with the Toffees “open to him leaving”.
“They’re [Everton] not getting that deal [Calvert-Lewin’s contract] done,” he said. He’s turned down a contract as it stands.
“He wants to go to Newcastle United. That one has got legs in it as well.
“Calvert-Lewin is one player, if he’s still with Everton after August I think they’ll look at a deal again. See where they are.
“I think the club are open to him leaving but it depends who wants him. There’s not an awful lot of teams pursuing him. I think still he probably will end up at Newcastle United. That’s my personal belief.”
Everton prepare for Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit
In an ideal world Sean Dyche would probably keep Calvert-Lewin at the club for another season as he is the perfect mould of forward that the boss likes in his team.
But with the financial problems the club have, they simply cannot afford to risk losing Calvert-Lewin for free in 12 months time considering his previous injury history.
Iliman Ndiaye has already been brought into the club to bolster the striker options, but there is also interest in Che Adams [Birmingham World, 4 July] and that could be an indication that the Toffees are eyeing replacements should Calvert-Lewin move on.

However, with Newcastle clearly not in a rush to do a deal it may become a game of chicken for any deal with Everton potentially waiting until late on to make a final decision.
If Calvert-Lewin wants to go then it is in everyone’s best interests to get a deal done to bring in some cash and bolster the squad with people who actually want to be part of Dyche’s side.
